“Ne, Ganbaru yo” by Kinki Kids

I seemed to have developed a tradition of translating a love song on Valentine’s Day. Well, I’m not sure if this is romantic, exactly, but it is hopeful and cheerful which in my world might as well be the same thing.

Someday the world we share will become irreplaceable.
I promise now, with these hands I will support you until that is achieved.
With strength,
I am going.

You always ask if I slept well,
And half-asleep I just nod.
Looking at that weak smile first thing every morning,
You taught me the key to something important.

Loneliness makes itself known, but happiness rings quietly.
It has strength so that it cannot be poured away.

There is always just one important place in the world we share.
I promise now, with these hands I will support you until it is attained.
With strength,
I am doing it.

I'm no poet, I can't be stylish.
All I know is how to speak honestly.
Meaningless words fly around. Now we fight a bitter war,
That is not the same as irony.

Someday the world we share will become irreplaceable.
I promise now, with these hands I will support you until that is achieved.
With strength,
I am going.

You say, "Do your best," and I accept it without rebelling.
I am doing my best to become a greater person.

Someday the world we share will become irreplaceable.
I promise now, with these hands I will support you until that is achieved,
With strength.
There is always just one important place in the world we share.
I promise now, with these hands I will support you until it is attained.
With strength.
I am going, I am doing it.
Hey, I am doing my best
.
